Rovo pricing in 2026: what Atlassian's AI costs on each Jira plan
Rovo is included in eligible paid Atlassian plans, with a shared credit allowance. Jira Standard includes 25 credits per user per month; a basic chat message uses 10. Extra usage costs $0.01 per credit, with billing starting on 3 December 2026.
Ten Jira Standard users pool 250 credits, enough for 25 basic chat messages a month. Budget from the team's total allowance and the work it needs to do, especially if agents or outside assistants also use the pool.

Which Jira plans include Rovo, and how much?
Standard, Premium and Enterprise include Rovo, with larger allowances on higher tiers. The Jira pricing page lists the credit allowance and the number of indexed objects per user on each plan, and shows the Free column empty for everything under AI. Seat prices below are the list prices from 13 October 2026 for up to 100 users on monthly billing, and the annual ten-user tier.
| Jira plan | Seat price from 13 October | Rovo credits per user per month | What is on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, up to 10 users | None | No Rovo, no agents, no MCP server |
| Standard | $9.70 per user/month, or $950 a year for 10 users | 25 | Search, Chat, Agents in Jira, Agent Sessions, MCP server, Teamwork Graph CLI, third-party agents |
| Premium | $19.60 per user/month, or $1,950 a year for 10 users | 70 | Everything in Standard plus Rovo Studio |
| Enterprise | Custom, billed annually | 150 | Everything in Premium |
Confluence carries the same 25, 70 and 150 per user, and the allowances stack. The Rovo credit rules give the example of 100 Jira Premium users and 100 Confluence Premium users, which produce 7,000 plus 7,000 credits a month in one shared pool. The Service and Teamwork Collections include ten times the standalone allowance, 250, 700 and 1,500 per user.
What is Rovo in 2026, and what is it not?
Rovo brings search, chat and agents to Jira, Confluence and Jira Service Management. The Teamwork Graph supplies context from Atlassian data and connected tools. The Rovo MCP server and Teamwork Graph CLI let outside assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT read and update Atlassian work.
There is no separate Rovo subscription for these features. Atlassian's Rovo licensing FAQ says it is added automatically to Standard, Premium and Enterprise cloud subscriptions, with no separate purchase. It is also not available on the Free plan, and it is not switched on for sites registered with a gmail.com or outlook.com address; the organisation admin needs a verified business domain. Rovo Dev, the coding agent, runs on its own credit system and is not covered by the figures here. Trello sits outside the Rovo credit model altogether.
How are Rovo credits consumed?
Each billable event consumes credits according to the feature and the work involved. In chat, each message you send is one event. For agents and AI features, each invocation is one event. Atlassian prices three bands:
- Free: Rovo Search inside Atlassian apps, definitions and summaries. These never touch the pool.
- Basic, 10 credits per event: Rovo Chat in quick-answers mode, creating a Rovo space, and basic agents with no model selection.
- Premium, variable credits per event: Rovo Chat in think-deeper mode, agents with model selection, Agents in Jira, the Jira Coding Agent, Confluence slides, Request Resolver and the rest of the advanced set. Atlassian does not publish a figure; it says the cost tracks reasoning steps, search volume, tools called and the model used.
Context is metered separately from intelligence. Simple lookups and writes through the MCP server or the CLI are free, but enriched calls that pull context across products, including unified search, cost 1 to 10 credits each, and a single prompt from an outside assistant can trigger several of them. Atlassian's own guidance is that a typical prompt lands at 10 to 25 credits. An outside assistant can therefore draw on the same pool as Rovo Chat.
Two things do not consume credits. Features in beta are exempt until they go generally available, and automation rules keep their own meter: a trigger, condition or standard action counts as an automation step, while an AI-powered action inside the same rule bills Rovo credits. Moving a piece of work from a rule to an agent moves it from the step meter to the credit meter; compare the total cost for that workflow.
What does a ten-person team pay?
These are the list prices from 13 October for Jira, plus a combined Jira and Confluence example, before tax. Jira Standard rises from $9.05 to $9.70 per user per month and Premium from $18.30 to $19.60. Existing annual subscriptions change at renewal. The Atlassian pricing changes cover the seat increase and the separate usage charges.
The final column shows what 5,000 credits above the allowance would add in one month once usage billing starts in December.
| Setup | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Pooled Rovo credits | 5,000 credits over, one month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 on Jira Standard | $97 per month, $1,164 a year | $950 a year | 250 per month | $50 |
| 10 on Jira Premium | $196 per month, $2,352 a year | $1,950 a year | 700 per month | $50 |
| 10 on Standard, Jira and Confluence | $168.50 per month | $950 plus Confluence | 500 per month | $50 |
Jira Standard's 250 pooled credits cover 25 basic chat messages for ten people; Premium's 700 cover 70. Premium agent usage varies by request, so the same balance cannot be converted into a fixed number of agent runs.
An extra 5,000 credits costs $50 and covers 500 basic chat messages at 10 credits each. Added to ten Standard seats on monthly billing, that makes the month's bill $147 before tax. Set a spending cap and use the dashboard to estimate the workload before December.
What happens when the allowance runs out?
Admins get notified at 80% and 100%, and whatever is in flight finishes. After that it depends on the extra-usage setting. Extra usage is on by default, so billable use continues at $0.01 per credit, or $10 per 1,000, up to a spending cap the admin sets. With extra usage off, new credit-consuming requests pause until the pool resets on the usage billing date. Features that do not consume credits keep working either way.
Billing for that extra usage starts on 3 December 2026. Until then the meter runs and the dashboard shows what it would have cost, so you can measure usage before it adds to the invoice. Prepaid credit packs come with volume discounts on annual commitments, and unused allowance does not roll over month to month. Per-user allocation of the pool is listed as coming soon, so for now one heavy user can spend the whole team's credits.
What do the other tools charge for AI?
Atlassian includes an allowance with paid seats and charges for usage beyond it. ClickUp Brain uses a separate Workspace-wide AI subscription. New monday work platform accounts select a monthly credit bundle alongside seats. Compare the cost for the same workload, not the price of a credit.
The broader comparison of AI project management software covers features and fit as well as price.
Should a small team budget for Rovo overage, or move?
If Jira and Confluence already fit the team, compare measured extra usage with the cost and effort of changing tools. Ten Standard users share enough credits for 25 basic messages a month, so frequent chat use can exceed the allowance. A spending cap keeps that extra bill within the limit you choose.
- Set the spending cap now. Extra usage is on by default and billing starts on 3 December. A $20 cap on a ten-person team is 2,000 credits of headroom.
- Watch the MCP line. If people connect Claude or ChatGPT to Jira, their prompts spend the pool. The usage export shows which feature and which user did it.
- Compare the cost of Premium with extra credits. Going from Standard to Premium for ten people costs about $1,000 a year on annual billing and buys 450 more credits a month. At a cent each, those credits are $4.50.
- Check the domain requirement. A small firm on a generic email domain gets no Rovo at all, whatever plan it pays for.
Include migration and retraining in the comparison, especially if the team depends on Jira workflows and integrations.
If you use Jira mainly as a task board, Breeze is another option. Its AI is included at $9 per user per month billed yearly, or $10 billed monthly, with every feature included. The Breeze MCP server connects outside assistants to the projects. Breeze does not replace Rovo Agents or the Teamwork Graph, so check those requirements before considering a move.
