Breeze vs Basecamp

Project board with tasks and task lists.

Basecamp is the OG of project management tools. It’s the one that inspired many others to be developed and that, since 1999, has been helping out countless teams organize and plan their projects.

Now, you might be wondering how a “baby” project management tool like Breeze could ever compete with Basecamp.

After all, we’ve only been around since 2014.

We’re not going to lie, when we decided to start developing Breeze, we knew the competition would be fierce. We knew many products had been around for years and we knew we would have to put up a fight in order to get recognized among them.

However, after giving many project management apps a try, we figured out how we could do it.

For every tool we used, we would fill in the sentence: “This would be perfect if it only allowed me to also…” and like that, we would understand what our competition lacked and what we could bring to the table.

And that’s exactly what we did with Basecamp.

What Did Basecamp Lack?

The main thing we noticed with Basecamp is that its services were too broad.

Project planning wasn’t the focal point -- collaboration was. As such, many features offered by Basecamp weren’t necessarily essential to project management. In short, Basecamp was a collaborative workspace, more than anything else.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as many customers are in fact looking for a tool that includes general features, and, for that reason, some tool developers choose to create a broad app, or as it is usually referred to, a horizontal software.

But, what if you wanted to focus on serious project management?

What if you wanted to take your planning processes to a new level?

Well then, perhaps Basecamp would not be the tool for you.

“Okay, so… What Type of Tool Should I Go For?”

Easy: one that falls more into the vertical software category, that is tailored to a specific industry and, as such, offers more specific features… one like Breeze!

Take a look at this table of features, comparing Breeze and Basecamp:

Breeze Basecamp
Agile principles
Kanban board
Unlimited users
Unlimited projects
Unlimited file storage
Email notifications
iCalendar support
Time tracking
Google Drive integration
Dropbox integration
CSV data export
Completed tasks analysis

See the difference?

Although Basecamp does include a few project management-focused features, that is clearly not the core of their services. Breeze, on the other hand, has been all about project planning from day one.
