New in Breeze: redesigned reports that put the totals first
Reports in Breeze have a new design. Every report type got the same treatment: the numbers you came for at the top, the detail grouped underneath, and a layout that stays readable whether the report covers one project or two hundred.
The reports themselves haven't changed. You still pick a report type, a date range and your filters, and you still save, export and share reports the same way. Your saved reports and public links keep working.
The totals come first
Each report now opens with a row of summary numbers. In the time tracking reports, that's the time worked and the time that isn't billable, along with the time estimated where the report has it. In the workload reports, it's the time worked against the time estimated, plus how many tasks have gone over their estimate. The task reports show how many tasks were created or updated, across how many projects, and the time worked on them.
Under the numbers, the time tracking reports show a chart of the time logged each day, with the time that isn't billable set apart. Time tracking project totals shows a chart of the 20 projects with the most time instead, with each bar in the project's own colour.
These numbers always cover everything in the report, not only the rows on the screen. That matters for the next change.
Open only the groups you need
Projects, people and dates are now groups you can open and close. A closed group shows its name and its totals on one line, so a report covering 40 projects fits on one screen and you can open the three you care about.
If you'd rather see everything at once, turn on Expand all rows above the report. Breeze remembers the setting for you. It's also saved with a saved report and with a public link, so the person you share a report with sees it the way you set it up.
Large reports open in seconds
The old reports loaded every time entry and every task before showing anything. For a team logging a few hundred hours a month, a report covering a year could take up to ten seconds to appear.
Now Breeze calculates the totals first and shows the rows in batches. Each group opens with its first rows, and a Show more button at the bottom loads the next batch. The same yearly reports now open in a couple of seconds.
Exports aren't affected. A CSV, QuickBooks, FreshBooks or Xero export still includes every entry in the report.
Workload against the estimate, at a glance
User workload and Task workload now show a bar for each task, project and person: how much of the estimate has been used. The bar stays green up to the estimate. Past it, the extra time shows in red and the percentage tells you by how much.
The tasks over estimate count at the top tells you whether there's anything to look at before you start opening groups. Tasks without an estimate show their time and no bar, so they don't crowd the ones that need attention.
See what's due and how soon
Tasks due by users and Tasks due by projects list tasks and to-dos together, earliest due date first. Next to each due date, Breeze shows how soon it is - today, tomorrow or in 5 days - so the week ahead is easy to read without counting on a calendar.
Each task also shows its status. A to-do shows which task it belongs to. In Tasks due by projects, you'll see who each item is assigned to, and the projects with the most due work come first.
Tasks created and Tasks updated
Each task in these reports now shows the list it's in, its start and due dates, who it's assigned to, and the time worked on it against its estimate. The date under the task name is when it was created, or in Tasks updated, when it was last changed.
Dates read as a range, such as Sep 1 – Sep 14. A task with only a start date or only a due date shows an open range, such as Sep 1 –, so you can tell which date it has.
Simpler filters
The filter that combined billable time, to-dos and archived projects in one long list is now split into three groups:
- Billable: all time, only billable time, or only time that isn't billable.
- To-dos: all to-dos, only done ones, or only those not done yet.
- Archived & hidden: which archived projects, hidden projects and project templates to include.
Billable and To-dos take one choice each, so you can't select two options that cancel each other out.
Try it on your next report
The new reports are live for everyone. Open Reports, run the one you use most and see how it looks. If you share reports with clients, check your public links and turn off any you no longer need.
If a report shows something you didn't expect, or you miss something from the old layout, let us know which report and what you were looking for.
